Recorder, Viol, Harpsichord trio "In the Margins": One of my recorder compositions has recently been published by Peacock Press in the UK, via www.recordermail.co.uk "In the Margins" is written for alto recorder, viol da gamba and harpsichord. It has six movements with a total duration of around 18 minutes. The viol part (Pardessus de viole or Treble Viol) could be played by violin. Busy with keyboard pieces: I've been busy with new keyboard pieces for a forthcoming recording project this year. So, I've uploaded a few new pieces - 'Pacer' Nos. 1,2 and 3, 'It May Been', 'Three Evancescences', and 'Three Additional Pieces'. What are Evanescences?: The 'Three Evanescences' were uploaded before Christmas. They are scored for keyboard(s) and/or other instruments. The recording uploaded with the score is of piano. Sometimes the easiest-looking pieces are the hardest to perform: Matrices by UK composer Paul Burnell was composed in 2013. At first sight this seven-movement collection of short pieces for piano, almost entirely comprised of breve chords, appears very simple. Girl With Binoculars: Last year the wonderful UK ensemble FourSight asked composers to produce short pieces inspired by pictures. I wrote a piece inspired by an artwork by Maddy Vian that showed a young girl with a pair of binoculars. You can judge for yourself if you think the music brings this to mind in any way! Ragtime - Erwin Schulhoff, from 'Fünf Pittorestken': Recently uploaded score and parts of an arrangement of an Erwin Schulhoff piece - the second movement of his 'Fünf Pittoresken'. The original has a tempo marking of Zeitmass Ragtime (ragtime tempo) and shows the influence of jazz styles that was to continue throughout his career.
